Design Plans

Preliminary planning has progressed to the point that floor plans and elevations may be visualized. The lobby and exterior facade will be preserved, as well as the statues which have been the theater's hallmark over the years.

The stage will require complete renovation, since it was originally designed as a cinema theater. The roof will be raised to provide fly area and the stage will be enlarged. An orchestra pit will be added.

An added wing will provide additional office space and a visual arts gallery.

The auditorium will provide some 500 seats, arranged in a ground floor and a mezzanine. Movable screens or walls will be provided to close off the mezzanine for smaller, more intimate productions.

Modern sound, lighting and stage facilities are to be included in the basic design. Provision for video recording and film projection are included.

The large stage will contain a trap door opening to the orchestra pit, and a conventional prompt box. The theater is intended to operate as an unmic'd venue, although optional operational sound capabilities will be provided.

The fly loft will accomodate conventional scenery as well as modern automated prop handling and lighting.
